Diagnosing Corruption Risks

An accurate diagnosis is essential for effective action.  Diagnosing potential risks is the first step towards preventing and countering corruption in the defence and security sectors.

It is reasonably straight-forward for interested parties - defence officials, defence companies, parliamentarians and the public - to make a diagnosis of the defence and security corruption risks in their country.

Transparency recommends three ways to diagnose corruption risk:

  • A self-assessment process for in-depth analysis by nations
  • a typology to outline how corruption can occur in defence and security
  • metrics and surveys to provide facts and figures, and measure progress
